Analysis of 'The Forest' after watching the film and receiving feedback
To sum up the video:
Improvements for me:
- Being on time with the bamboo duet with lola. Making sure we are sticking to the 6 beat rhythm and pausing at the right time so it looks sharp and affective.
- Moving with purpose. I look a bit lost sometimes when moving to different sections.
- Switching positions with Emma (as she is the leader) in the unison dance because i originally stand at the front in the middle.
The backstory of the forest:
We as an ensemble are representing the witches past children victims but in spirit form. we are still under her curse and are predator like, trying to capture other children for her. This is our interpretation of the forest, it is a dangerous, haunted and unsettling environment.
We are also creating the environment of the forest as an ensemble. it is supernatural and has no civilisation or rules set in place, which makes it unsafe. Its alive and wild. We need to channel this during our pair work, as this is the climax of the forest.
Now that we are familiar with who we are in the ensemble, we need to focus on improving body shapes and visual imagery. We need to think about being more sharp, aggressive, and more like a hunting animal. characterising as a hunting wolf for example, will help to achieve this.
Another improvement:
During the section where hansel and Gretel are trying to escape the forest and find each other, we need to make sure that when hansel is trying to reach for Gretel, we move Gretel away. this will really exaggerate the retainment.
